The recent Constituency Labour Party All Members Meeting, held in Billinghay was a full and enthusiastic event. Alongside regular reports from various local officers, including the treasurer, media officer, and newly elected Elections Officer there were a number of positive and exciting discussions.
These included a look at the WASPI, Women Against State Pension Inequality, campaign ( http://www.waspi.co.uk/ ). Around 7,000 women in our constituency are affected by this and very little appears to be being done to address this. We will be looking at this ourselves as part of our forthcoming Women's Group and actively campaigning locally.
We also enjoyed a great discussion on conferences, including a report on the Women's Conference that was held in January, planning for the then forthcoming Regional Conference, and the annual national conference which will be held in Liverpool.
There was a unanimous agreement on our candidate for the forthcoming Sleaford Town Council by-election for Castle Ward and we all wish Linda Edwards-Shea the best of luck along with all our support throughout the campaign.
After accepting a cheque from the 100 Club towards CLP funds ( http://www.sleaford-hykeham-labour.org.uk/100_club_donation ), and discussing useful TED Talks we spent time addressing and accepting unanimously a motion regarding Brexit and the way in which Labour Nationwide could improve it's handling and direction for the benefit of the many, and not the few. A final document was approved and will be forwarded on to the national party.
After such a useful and full meeting we all headed off home planning for the next Branch meeting on the 19th March and the next CLP meeting on 9th April
