The most surprising thing about Jeremy Corbyn's victory in the leadership election is the continued increase in membership. I expected people to join to vote for their favoured candidate, but even a month after election, we are still gaining members here in Lincolnshire.
The membership of Sleaford and North Hykeham Party has nearly doubled. As a result our last meeting was well attended with many new faces.
The main items were the response to our appeal to North Kesteven council on the need to help refugees and the new local plan.
On the refugee crisis, there was a much interest from the press and radio stations but nothing from North Kesteven council. Perhaps the crisis is filed in the “too difficult” drawer.
The local plan is out for consultation. A first reading suggests there is no clear route to achieving the objectives set by the plan. It is best to call them aspirations. The remaing consultation sessions are:
12 October @ Hammond Hall, Bassingham
15 October @ Village Hall Billinghay
21 October @ Methodist Church, Bracebridge Heath
