October All Member Meeting

The most surprising thing about Jeremy Corbyn's victory in the leadership election is the continued increase  in membership.  I expected people to join to vote for their favoured candidate, but even a month after election, we are still gaining members here in Lincolnshire.

The membership of Sleaford and North Hykeham Party has nearly doubled.  As a result our last meeting was well attended with many new faces.

The main items were the response to our appeal to North Kesteven council on the need to help refugees and the new local plan.

On the refugee crisis, there was a much interest from the press and radio stations but nothing from North Kesteven council.  Perhaps the crisis is filed in the “too difficult” drawer.

The local plan is out for consultation.   A first reading suggests there is no clear route to achieving the objectives set by the plan.  It is best to call them aspirations.  The remaing consultation sessions are:
12 October @ Hammond Hall, Bassingham
15 October @ Village Hall Billinghay
21 October @ Methodist Church, Bracebridge Heath

Cllr Marion Brighton replied to our letter. The key part of her response is: "I would like to advise that we are willing to accept some of the refugees but we do not have an accurate number we are expected to house. The figures are being collated by Lincolnshire County Council and the UK government via the Home Office is leading the work on numbers. The local effort is a partnership endeavour which I understand there is a further discussion taking place in the near future. "
