Our final members meeting of 2017 was a full and enthusiastic affair which we hope will lead to some exciting developments in 2018. CLP treasurer Linda noted that there was a great opportunity for us to explore and enhance Labour policy on rural areas. This has inspired us to join Labour Coast & Country in order to become more involved in this key area for our constituents.
We also discussed the 2018 East Midlands Labour conference and began planning who our delegates could be, there was a report from the regional LGBT Labour conference, and feedback from the regional economics conference, as well as a media and communications update, all before the floor was opened to general debate.
The lively debate saw the introduction of a new elections officer, planning for the next district elections, and identified a requirement for training. As from our first meeting in 2018 (12th February) we will be adding an element of advice, tips and training for new and nervous members. This will cover such areas as 'door knocking', 'canvassing', and 'campaigning'. We hope that this will take the mystery out of these useful elements of our work for the Sleaford & North Hykeham constituency.
In addition to this we will look at finding ways to train up and introduce potential candidates to the requirements of each post for all forthcoming elections, alongside further welcome information and to all new members. The aim is for everything to be even more clear and straight forward for all our members, new and old!
